For about a decade, I've been working full-time in a hospital setting helping people who experience severe addiction and mental disorders.
But at the side of my desk, for several years, I’ve been on a mission.
There's so much harmful misinformation, confusion, and pseudoscience thriving in our culture--and I'm tired of it. So, I've been cultivating social media to educate the public about evidence-based patient care, as well as questionable, pseudoscientific health practices. My goal is to help improve our collective science and mental health literacy skills so that we're all better prepared to protect against harmful practices and fake science news.
I started this Mind the Science Newsletter because I wanted a vehicle beyond social media to continue my advocacy work—and to keep you updated about my forthcoming book about mental health misinformation and pseudoscience. It will be published on September 3, 2024, by Penguin Random House Canada, Oxford University Press, and Audible.
This free newsletter will also update you on my advocacy work along the way, including any featured interviews, podcasts, or news stories that are worth sharing. Occasionally, I will also take a deep dive into a topic that is worth exposing and debunking, and may explore a question about science or mental health posed to me on social media (either from Twitter, Instagram, or Facebook).
Please don’t worry, I loathe spam. I promise not to bombard your inbox.

Couldn't be more delighted that Dr Jonathan Stea has made the move to Substack to help build a great community here in place of the Twitter sewer. Recently retired but not quite. Bachelor of Science & Nursing, 35 ish years in healthcare. As are many, I’m so confused and baffled with all the misinformation surrounding science and research. Was a bit dumbfounded to find this among colleagues. I want to understand why, so thank you Dr. Jonathon Stea. Looking forward to this.
